You did it- you invested in your own treadmill. We admire your will and ambition. You have pre-programmed exercising, regular workouts, and you usually achieve your short-term goals. Perfect! What you need to know, is that it needs to be taken care of, so it can last and work properly for longer a period.

Nowadays, most of the fitness equipment on the market, don’t need special care, you have to clean and keep the dust away from them. In addition to this, there are some tricks you may want to know. Don’t be afraid, special skills are not required for being able to do them.

As said above, you have to clean it regularly. Dust is the most common problem: once it reaches the motor, you will be surprised that it can even break down because of the dust. This can happen, on the long run, but there are other serious problems that can occur because of it: sudden change in speed, incline, even suddenly stop.

It is recommended, if you use it on a regular basis and don’t have it stored somewhere, you wipe it down once a week. Use only water, no soaps or other solvents. Before cleaning it, unplug it! You should dust between the deck and the belt, and vacuum under the motor hood at least once a month.

Also, vacuum around the treadmill, always! If you don’t have a compact treadmill, and you place it in a safe place until the next usage, make sure it is completely covered and the dust is not reaching it. Also check with the user manual, to see if it needs to stay in a certain position, some engines and belt might get affected by a wrong positioning.

While talking about positioning, another thing you must know is that from time to time you have to adjust the belt- if you don’t, the risk of injuries is increasing. The belt can get too loose or too tight. It can get off-centered. But for this, the best thing you should do is to check with the manual, you will find there all the information you need.

Another maintenance part you have to take care of is the deck. They come lubricated but in a few years you will definitely need to lubricate it yourself. Again, you should check the user manual- they will let you know how often you have to do this and what quantity to use each time.

The highest quality treadmills will provide you many intensive workouts until the first service, so, to make it last this much, take good care of your machine.
